It is with great sadness that I announce that Terry Regan CVO, the founder and driving force of International Golf for Youth for many years, died suddenly on 5th December 2017, two months before his 84th birthday. It was Terry who had the idea and who persuaded The Duke of Edinburgh to give his name and allow The Duke of Edinburgh Cup to hold the annual world finals and prize-giving dinner at Windsor Castle. He was Chairman of the Board of International Trustees until 2010 and remained a hard-working and involved trustee until his death. His legacy is that, since the first competition in 2001, The International Golf Charity has been able to grant a total of US$6.2 million to help and support young people in over 20 countries around the world. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Shirley, his family, and many friends.
Brigadier John Smedley CVO
The International Golf Charity
Brigadier John Smedley, formally Private Secretary to TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex has taken over as Chairman from Peter Venison.
Peter found he was spending a lot more time abroad and could not give the time he felt was needed to the role.
John’s aim is to grow the event to maximise the fantastic privilege the charity has with the support of the Royal Family and subsequent use of Windsor Castle and The Royal Household Golf Club.
