It is with great sadness that we received the announcement of the death of The Duke of Edinburgh today. His Royal Highness was our Founding Patron who in 1999 personally encouraged Terry Regan and Peter Venison to set up a series of amateur golf events around the world to raise funds to help and support young people in those countries, often through the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. We were allowed to use his name and call the tournament The Duke of Edinburgh Cup, and we have retained the unique privilege of holding our annual World Finals Prize-giving at a Gala Dinner in the State Rooms of Windsor Castle. Prince Philip’s interest and encouragement has enabled The International Golf Charity to grant £4.4 million to help young people in over 20 countries since its foundation. We mourn the loss of His Royal Highness and offer our most heartfelt condolences to HM The Queen and all the Royal Family.
